108: Rejection
Zhang found that Wang Cheng no longer hesitated to see her. She walked in with a twist of her hips and put on a smile. At first sight, he could see that she wanted something from them, otherwise, she would not be so flattering. Usually, she had to be more disgusting.
"Wang Cheng, hey, you're ready to eat. The smell is really fragrant. Your mother's craftsmanship is good, your second auntie can't compare." As soon as Zhang entered the door, she praised Mama Wang.
Wang Cheng didn't feel moved after listening. "Second auntie, you need not flatter, just say what you’re going to. My family will eat after." His implication was ‘leave as soon as you finish and talking and don’t delay so that we can eat’.
Zhang thought that she was asking for help now, so she could only endure his tone, but sooner or later she would get back.
"Since you have spoken, second auntie will tell you. The reason I came to find you, in fact, is related to your cousin. You also know that your cousin has been unable to find a job since graduation, and now stays at home doing nothing. However, it can’t always be like this. Second auntie heard that you were looking for a worker, and wondered if you could give your cousin a try.”
The cousin was Wang Ningshan, who was the same age as Wang Cheng and had graduated for a year. Because he couldn’t endure any hardships, he hadn’t kept a job for a month at most this year, and some even dismissed him without having done work for a day, not to mention that he shifted the blame. He complained about how bad the boss or the employee was, and that they only let him do heavy work.
Zhang took her son as a baby. She once asked him to find an easy job to settle accounts, but he was kicked out after a few days because he didn't calculate well. He made mistakes so frequently that the boss didn’t even pay for him. He dared to let him do accounting again.
After looking for seven or eight jobs in the past year, Wang Ningshan found that he hadn’t gotten a job, and stayed at home. Like an ancestor, he had Zhang and second uncle serve him.
[T/N: An ancestor is ranked above the descendant so it is used as an arrogant term like ‘laozi’ (I, your father) in a way to call one person a higher rank than the other. This is saying they are treating their son like he is above them, or like a parent-in-law.]
Although Zhang and second uncle spoiled him, they also hoped that he would have a chance and wanted to give him some money to do business, but feared that he would mess up. Moreover, because Wang Ningshan's reputation was not good, no one nearby wanted to accept him. They both thought about it a few days ago, and heard others say that Wang Cheng was recruiting workers, so she decided to come and explore. Second uncle wanted to protect his good face, so he asked Zhang to come.
"Second auntie, I'm afraid my cousin can't do the job." Wang Cheng truthfully said that he didn't want to recruit Wang Ningshan, even as a relative. The reason why he couldn't find a job all the time was because he was so lazy. He only thought about making money and didn’t act on it. It was weird that he was even able to grow up. Although he had a college diploma, in the past few years he hadn’t learned anything except eating, drinking, and having fun. Others could at least pull out books even if they forgot, but he couldn’t pull out fart.
"Just running and delivering things, why can't he be competent?" Zhang heard the rejection in Wang Cheng's words, and the smile on her face faded slightly.
"Since second auntie wants to listen, I'll analyze it for you. First, the job is physical, and cousin is so weak that he can't even do light work. How can he be competent? Second, my customers are mostly supermarkets in Shanhai City, so they need to be familiar with Shanhai City. Cousin hardly leaves the house, I'm afraid he will get lost outside of the Guan’s Village."
Zhang Shi couldn't laugh, her son was said to be useless. However, for the sake of her son, she had to continue to bear it. "How do you know if you don't try?"
"Cousin doesn't even have the ability to take care of himself, do I still need to try? Second auntie, are you kidding me?" Wang Cheng helplessly spread his hands.
"I didn’t think that your family is now developed and able to ignore relatives. Ningshan is your cousin. Would your cousin this? Do you think that laoniang cares for you?" Zhang Shi finally couldn’t continue to pretend.
[T/N: If I didn’t say this before, the connotations are basically the same as ‘laozi’, but it means ‘this old lady’.]
"If you don’t care, you can go." Mama Wang came out with the chicken, apparently listening to their conversation, and now she couldn’t continue to be polite to Zhang.
Zhang finally left in a huff.
Wang Cheng and his parents did not lose their appetite because of this matter. It wasn't they who were upset anyway. They did what they should do, so no one took it to heart. They never thought that this matter would escalate in a few days.
Because no delivery workers were found, Wang Cheng delivered the goods by himself for the next few days. If he was not too far away from the company after entering the city, he would call Chu Yifeng. Neither of them mentioned what they had talked about before. That kind of topic could only be brought up naturally.
After delivering the goods and returning to the jam shop, Wang Cheng saw an unexpected visitor. This person was Zheng Jingen, who bought a lot of jams from him some time ago. He was as knowledgeable as Chu Yifeng when he talked with Papa Wang.
"Chengcheng, you came back at just the right time, Mr. Zheng is here." Papa Wang was facing the door, and immediately waved when he saw him.
Zheng Jingen turned his head and nodded at him. "I'm bothering you again. The batch of jam I bought from you last time was very popular. I want to order more from you, but I don't know if you have any."
"Of course." If business came to the door, why should Wang Cheng refuse it?
"That would be great."
"But Mr. Zheng really doesn't have to come make this trip in person. Next time, call and I will arrange it properly for you. Then you only need to send someone to pick up the goods." Wang Cheng also thought about him. Rich people were always busy, just like Chu Yifeng. Don't look at him during ordinary times. He had found that Chu Yifeng often used his laptop for office work, but he didn’t know what exactly he was doing.
"I’ve spent a long time in big cities, and it's good to occasionally come to this place to relax and change my mood." Zheng Jingen shook his head. If a subordinate came over, how could he get close to the family? Some things were too extensive, so even after sending someone to inquire, he didn’t get any useful news.
"That is, the country is so nice, and the air is definitely much fresher than in the big cities. Mr. Zheng is still young, and it will be too late to think about these things when you get old." Papa Wang immediately agreed, he hoped that Mr. Zheng would come often. He hadn’t chatted as happily as he did today since chatting with that Boss Chu.
Wang Cheng looked helpless, his dad was just like that.
Zheng Jingen also ordered a relatively large quantity this time. The warehouse didn’t have that much inventory. After Wang Cheng told him, he said that it would be okay to wait a while. In the afternoon, Papa Wang enthusiastically invited him for lunch. Zheng Jingen did not refuse. Wang Cheng had to make a call to Mama Wang and ask her to add another person while cooking.
Their family had a simple, unrefined diet. Even if there was an additional customer, the food had not changed much. Papa Wang was afraid that Zheng Jingen was not used to eating these things, but when he ate, he looked the same as usual and praised that the food was delicious. Papa Wang felt more and more that this young man was also good.
In fact, in the eyes of Papa Wang, anyone who he could talk to was good.
After Zheng Jingen was sent away, Wang Cheng drove to buy the fruits. The farmers in the village knew that Wang Cheng’s household was making jam. It was no surprise to see him come to them. The two parties negotiated the price, and the transaction was completed on the spot. The price Wang Cheng gave was the same as the wholesale price on the market. Although it had not increased, it was much higher than the fruit sellers who could only lower the price. Then, when hundred dollar bills were piled up, the smiling wrinkles on the fruit farmer’s face appeared.
"Wang Cheng, if you still want to buy fruit later, come to me at any time." The middle-aged man with the surname Li laughed. After selling to Wang Cheng, he could save a certain amount of money, which was very cost-effective.
"Uncle Li, rest assured that I will definitely come to you if need it. You will have to count me a little cheaper then." Wang Cheng was also happy to deal with them.
"Okay, no problem!" Uncle Li answered boldly.
After the farewell, Wang Cheng sent the fruit to the small factory, and a few workers moved the baskets of fruit into it. When Mama Wang came out, she was wearing an apron and in her gloved hands were unsqueezed fruits dripping water.
"Chengcheng, you came at just the right time. The jam jars in the warehouse are almost gone. You can buy another batch when you are free, and find another time to package the finished jam."
Wang Cheng nodded again and again. As expected, he still needed to find a delivery worker. It was okay for a day or two, but he was too tired to run around every day. When he talked to Chu Yifeng at night, his voice was weak. Chu Yifeng asked him what was wrong and Wang Cheng told him truthfully.
"Do you want me to introduce someone personally?"
"No, a person introduced by Boss Chu will definitely not be bad, but I don't want to overdo it. I'll just look for them again, I can always find them."
The next day, Wang Cheng drove half a truckload of jam to the packaging factory, and then went to buy a cart of jam jars. He had called the other day, and the manufacturer of the jam jars had packaged the goods and was waiting for him to take the goods. The manufacturing factory was not far from the packaging factory, Wang Cheng arrived ten minutes later and the director warmly welcomed him. However, Wang Cheng was in a little bit of a hurry, so he didn't chat with him for too long. Just when he was planning to leave, there was a sudden noise in front of the gate of another factory.
People who heard the sound walked over to watch. Wang Cheng also gave a subconscious glance; it seemed that someone was kicked out, and a cursing voice came over, which was not very pleasant.
