125: The Du Brothers

Two days later, Wang Cheng went over to sign the contract.

The old factory director’s starting price was indeed not high, but Wang Cheng took into consideration that some of his tools were new and gave a little more as compensation. Everyone came  to do business; it was not easy. Hearing his explanation, the old director was very moved, and Wang Cheng was issued a good person card.

After signing the transfer agreement of the jam factory, the old factory director proposed to take him to the factory to meet a few important employees. In the future, they would all be Wang Cheng's employees. Familiarity was necessary. The employees in the factory were not surprised by their arrival, the old factory director had already told them yesterday. Only a few old employees were a bit resistant. No one knew what kind of person the new factory director was. If he had a bad character, what could they do?

They didn't expect that the new factory manager was only 25 years old, looking handsome and young. The young women in the factory immediately became idiots when they saw him.

"Is this young man really our new director?"

"Yeah, yeah, he looks so handsome. If he is, we will be fortunate for this sight in the future. I wonder if he has a girlfriend?"

"No, it's not your turn."

"How do you know if you don't try? At least we have one more advantage than other women."

"What advantage?"

"We’re closer."

Several women talked a bit loudly. Wang Cheng and the others were just around the corner. The old factory director smiled at him. "It seems I don't have to worry about it. Mr. Wang will be more popular than this former factory director in the future."

Wang Cheng smiled and didn't agree. It was not a good thing to be popular since he had a lover.

The old factory director took him to the office of the factory, then called in several important employees, introducing them to Wang Cheng one by one.

No matter how small the factory was, there was an “internal situation” for things, not to mention that the jam factory was not small. There were at least 100 more employees than in Wang Cheng’s small factory in the Guan’s Village. The factory covered food processing and food manufacturing; in other words, in the future, the jams produced by Wang Cheng’s family would no longer be shipped to Boss Xie’s packaging factory.

The people called by the old factory director were the leaders in each workshop. There were men and women, and they were generally over 30 years old. They knewa lot of inside information. The old factory manager had obviously comforted them. It was unlikely that anyone who could get mixed up with the workshop director had any outward impulsive rejection shown to Wang Cheng, the new director.

"Hello, my name is Wang Cheng. I will be the new director of this jam factory in the future. I don’t have much experience, so if there is anything wrong, please give me your of advice." Wang Cheng said to them with a bow.

His attitude was very sincere. Some people were originally worried that the newly-appointed factory director was a difficult person. Now that they saw that he did not look at them differently and showed no arrogance, they finally felt relieved.

Although the director was changed, the problems in the jam factory still had to be resolved. In this era of increasingly fierce competition, the jam produced by the jam factory was actually not much of a problem. However, iit was not much worse than other brands of jams, so the malicious competition of peers had caused them a lot of hardships. The jam industry was not so easy, customers had never considered other issues in order to find a low-cost product.

The old factory manager just didn't want to make jams that violated his morals for the benefit of other jam dealers, so he rarely deducted the cost, and the price therefore had to be higher than others’.

"The average selling price of our jams is around seven yuan. The prices of other brands of jams should generally be six yuan, and your price is not much higher. Why are sales getting worse?" Wang Cheng didn't understand how they operated. If there were fixed customers, it didn’t make sense that the jam factory’s business would be so bad.

"Director, you just arrived, you don't know. There is not only one jam factory in our area, but also two factories larger than ours. The business of this jam factory got worse because of them." The head Lu Dade, a nearly 50-year-old middle-aged man, had worked in the jam factory for more than ten years and had a deep feeling for the jam factory. At the time, when the old factory director said that he would sell the jam factory, he had the worst reaction.

"The two factories were opened by a pair of brothers surnamed Du. They also produce fruit products, and jams are the main product. In the past, in order to compete, they maliciously snatched business and broke down many jam factories. Their reputation is very poor, and many people don’t want to deal with them. However, the customers don’t know and may not believe it if they hear it. The reason why this jam factory didn’t close is because the old factory director was nice and honest. Old customers were willing to place orders with the jam factory, but with only old customers, if there is no fresh blood injected, the jam factory will sooner or later have problems."

"And after that?"

"After that, we tried every way to attract new customers. Although we were tired, it finally paid off. That was until half a year ago, when the Du Brothers suddenly launched several lower-cost jams. It is said that the cost of several jams is less than four yuan, but the quantity is the same, so the wholesale price is between four and five. For retail, the bottle of jam makes about a two yuan profit. Some of our customers had heard and went to their factory to place orders, which caused our business to get worse and worse, and we almost went out of business.

"Theoretically, the cost of a bottle of jam is unlikely to be less than four yuan. How did the other party do it? Have you investigated it?" Wang Cheng said, touching his chin. He also made jam, and considered the initial costs. It was clear that, in addition to the cost of materials and labor costs, it was unlikely that the total cost would be less than four yuan. Hearing his words, everyone looked at each other.

"What happened?"

Another old employee surnamed Zhang, who was Lu Dade's wife, had been working in the jam factory since she married him. She hesitated to explain: "We heard a bad rumor that the Du Brothers’ fruits used for those jams are rotten fruits received from other places, and the purchase price is only two or three cents per pound."

Good fruit usually had to be doubled several times, like apples. Apples had a wholesale price of more than 80 cents per pound, but the cost could grow to more than double. Wang Cheng didn't expect there to still be this: they made jam from rotten fruit. After eating for a long time, there must be problems in the body. Only a black-hearted businessman could do this kind of thing with no guilty conscience. "Did anyone reveal it?"

"Yes, yes, but I heard that they have connections. Even if they go this route, there will be no problems. The old factory director once accused that they should not do such a lack-of-morality thing. As a result, someone came to check our jam factory a few days later. It was said that a report had been received. However, who here doesn’t know that our jam factory is even more formal than the Du Brothers’ factory? The fruit used can only be good, not to mention that to the health aspect, the old factory director attached great importance. Although in the end, it was fine, everyone knew that it must have been related to the Du Brothers, and no one dared to offend them in the future. We can only try to remind everyone not to buy jams produced by the Du Brothers."

"Do you know when the Du Brothers get these rotten fruits?"

Zhang Dayu said, "In fact, we haven't seen it, but someone who couldn’t fall asleep in the middle of the night said that they saw several trucks coming and going from the Du Brothers' factory, not once or twice. They always go back and forth three or four times. They think that the trucks are filled with the rotten fruits they bought."

“The Du Brothers are very vigilant, the time of the trucks is always uncertain, it is difficult to catch their handles." Said another employee.

"I see, I will deal with this matter later, you don't have to worry about the factory closing down. My family also makes jams. Some cooperative merchants can handle it temporarily. It is no problem."

After Wang Cheng finished saying these words, and everyone scattered, he pulled out his mobile phone and made a complaint call to the Health Bureau, reporting seriously. Wang Cheng didn’t know whether the people over there were shocked or not, but the other party was quick in saying that they would immediately investigate the matter.

The next day, when Wang Cheng came over, he heard employees from the factory employees that the Du Brother's factory had been investigated by the Health Bureau. Unfortunately, nothing was found. Some people saw the Du Brothers smiling and sending the Health Bureau people away. After the person left, his face sank immediately.

Wang Cheng did not expect to be able to bring down the Du Brothers in one fell swoop. This move was just to prove one thing: the Du Brothers were indeed not simple. They were hidden for six months without being exposed.

"Director." Lu Dade stopped Wang Cheng, who was preparing to go out, and came to him saying, "I heard a message this morning that the Du Brothers seem to be transporting a bunch of rotten fruits tonight."

"Where did the news come from?" Wang Cheng raised his eyebrows slightly, his face unchanged.

"An employee in their factory told me secretly, he is a child of a relative of mine, and the news should not be wrong.”

"I got it, you don't have to do anything about it, just go home from work as usual at night. Leave the rest to me." Wang Cheng left after finishing.

Lu Dade always felt that the new factory director seemed particularly calm, after knowing this important news, he did not show the slightest surprised expression. He couldn't help admiring his calmness. Since he said so, he would not do anything extra. If they could bring down the Du Brothers, they would not need to be helpless for another half a year. After work at night, everyone left.

That night, two trucks drove into the Du Brothers' factory, but until they finished unloading, no one appeared quietly around them. The next morning, the relative of Lu Dade came over and asked them why they didn’t show up when he had finally received the news.
