147: Long-term Pain is Worse Than Short-Term Pain
Wang Cheng told Guan Jiahe the date the shop would be opened. He and Uncle Liang set off the next day. There was an advantage to working in the new shop, it was that Wang Cheng did not prohibit them from selling the products in private. So, apart from an increase in wages, they could earn extra money in their free time. Wang Cheng put on his boots and was about to go out, when Chu Yifeng suddenly stopped him.
"Did Zheng Jingen call you or find you recently?"
"Mr. Zheng? No."
Wang Cheng was surprised, "Why talk about him, why would he look for me?"
"No reason. Do you want me to accompany you there?"
Wang Cheng wanted to refuse, but thinking that the company and the new shop were close, he didn’t decline. Afterward, he could go to the company to find Chu Yifeng, and it wouldn’t take more than ten minutes to walk.
The car drove out of Tranquil Community, and before turning, Wang Cheng's cell phone rang. When he pulled it out, he saw the caller clearly written ‘Zheng Jingen’.
"Who is calling?" Chu Yifeng asked.
Wang Cheng narrowed his eyes and looked at him. "Be honest, are you and Mr. Zheng hiding anything from me? You just asked about him, and he called me now. The time is too coincidental, am I right?"
"Take the call first."
Wang Cheng wasn’t anxious for an answer, so he connected the phone.
Zheng Jingen didn't come to him this time for jam. He had successively placed a few large orders with Wang Cheng before, but they weren’t all completed yet. Wang Cheng also knew, but it was a bit surprising that he wanted to meet him. Not just because they’d meet, but because for the meeting place, Zheng Jingen even asked to set it at his home. After hanging up the phone, Wang Cheng frowned.
"What did he say?" Chu Yifeng asked again.
Wang Cheng told him and then asked, "Boss Chu, do you know anything?"
"It's a bit of a guess."
"Tell me the guess."
"You'll know when you meet him at that time, you won't believe it if I tell you now." Chu Yifeng didn't tell him.
Wang Cheng stared at him for a while, then turned his head to look out the window, "I’ll just forget it, then."
That's what he said, but he started to think about it in his heart, remembering that Chu Yifeng had told him Zheng Jingen seemed to have those kinds of thoughts towards him. He couldn't help but wonder, ‘He didn’t come for this, right?’
The two did not speak anymore. The car drove all the way to the Changhe Building. Wang Cheng asked Chu Yifeng to park near the building, and when he arrived at the new shop, his cousin and Uncle Liang were already there. It was half an hour earlier than the time he had said. If he didn’t come out early, the two would be waiting outside the shop for a while in the cold weather.
Morning in the commercial district was the time with the least traffic of the day. The three of them took advantage of this time to clean up the jam shop, and then put the jam shipped yesterday on the counters and shelves, as well as moving around the processed chestnut and hawthorn, persimmon cakes, and non-perishable dates.
The efficiency of the three was relatively high, so it took less than two hours. After finishing up with the shop, Wang Cheng took them to see the rented house.
Chu Yifeng helped him find a house that was near the commercial area. There were actually no houses for rent in this area. Even if there were, it was expensive to death, and renting wouldn’t be worthwhile. Wang Cheng went to find it by himself before he went to Chu Yifeng. The minimum rent was 6,000 a month, and the location of the house was located in a back corner. There would be no sunlight all year round, and there was no ready-made furniture. Such a broken house cost 6,000 a month.
After Chu Yifeng knew it, he found a better house facing south with good lighting, and most importantly, no rent, because the house was given to him by relatives when he arrived in Shanhai City. He didn’t like it, and so he hadn’t come over and it just sat there, accumulating dust
Guan Jiahe and Uncle Liang thought that the house should be relatively small. However, when they got downstairs, they found that it was a high-end house. Living there would be simply enjoyable.
"Chengcheng, the rent of such a house must be very expensive, I feel that it is not a good deal," Guan Jiahe said worriedly. Although he and Uncle Liang would not live here every day, there would be a sense of insecurity living in such a beautiful house.
"It’s not expensive, this is sponsored by a friend of mine." Wang Cheng also came for the first time. He did not expect that the decoration style of the house turned out to be so classic; the furniture was mahogany, and the floorboards were also wooden. However, he could still smell the natural freshness. Fortunately, he was mentally prepared, and the house sent by his relatives would certainly not be too bad.
"What friend is so generous?" Guan Jiahe was surprised.
"Cousin, don't worry. The house is left unoccupied, you also see it. There is a lot of dust. You must clean it before you move in. In addition, you need to pay for water and electricity."
"No problem." Uncle Liang came over and responded. He had never lived in such a beautiful house, so he liked it very much.
After seeing the house, Uncle Liang and Guan Jiahe stayed to clean the house. They were planning to move over the things they needed tomorrow. There was nothing to do next. There was no need to hurry to start business at the new shop, so Wang Cheng left the keys to the house and shop and left.
Wang Cheng went to the company to find Chu Yifeng for lunch. He visited several times, so most of the employees already knew who he was, but they would still be surprised to see him eating with Chu Yifeng.
"Wang Cheng, I haven't seen you for a while. What have you been up to lately?"
Fang Tian secretly came over and asked this when the boss went to pay the bill.
"It's all the same." Wang Cheng shrugged. He didn't plan to tell anyone about the matters at home for the time being. "Yes, why don’t I see Cheng Cheng? Did that kid not come to work today?"
Fang Tian sighed. "He has taken three days off. When I saw him for the last time, his expression was very bad. He hasn’t answered calls recently. It seems that there is some drama."
"What happened?"
"It seems to be a conflict with his girlfriend. A week ago, I asked him to go out to drink, and he got drunk and told me about it. Apparently, his girlfriend cheated, and hooked up with a rich man. Cheng Cheng broke up with her, but he loved her very much, always thinking about marrying his girlfriend. He couldn’t accept such a blow when it happened. I hope he can think more clearly. There is nothing to cherish when a woman cheats for money. However, she doesn’t look like she’d do it.. I’ve seen Cheng Cheng’s girlfriend, she’s petite, cute, and kind, she doesn’t seem like that person at all.”
Wang Cheng hadn’t seen her, but he could often hear Cheng Cheng talking about his girlfriend, saying he had the best girlfriend in the world. However, in the end, it didn’t work out.
"Let him see that there is no need to hurt himself for a woman who has no vision. It's not worth it."
"I said the same, but he doesn't seem to be able to listen. Otherwise, you try and see if he answers, and then advise him. He seems to listen more to you." Fang Tian would call him every day, but the company needed manpower now. It wouldn’t be worth it to make his boss angry by taking leave all the time.
"Well, I’ll try it when I have time."
"The boss is here, I'm leaving first." Fang Tian saw the boss coming, dropped that sentence, and ran away, as if he was a new employee that had never talked to the boss.
Chu Yifeng glanced at Fang Tian's back. "What were you talking about?"
"Nothing, just about Cheng Cheng." Wang Cheng shrugged.
Chu Yifeng nodded and didn't ask again.
In the afternoon, Wang Cheng had nothing to do. He remembered what Fang Tian said in the morning and called Cheng Cheng a few times, but none of them went through. The kid obviously hadn't figured things out yet. He sat in Chu Yifeng's office to read. There was a bookshelf with a lot of books on it, and although it was not as rich as the hotels, there were many types, and they were very esoteric books, such as finance, economics, etc., which made him a bit dazzled. When he glanced over, he saw "Pride and Prejudice", exactly the same version as the last book he read at the hotel. Because he hadn’t been there for too long, he hadn’t finished reading it yet.
"Why do you have this book here as well, do you also like to read this?" Wang Cheng pulled the book from the bookshelf, flipped it to the bookmarked page, and took a closer look; at a closer look, it was exactly where he left it last. Immediately, he turned around and said to him, moved, "Boss Chu, you are so kind to me, I really don't know how to repay you.”
"As long as you let me enjoy the benefits of a lover, it is the biggest reward for me." Chu Yifeng looked up at him.
Wang Cheng put away his moved emotions in an instant, and the ‘educated hooligan’ Chu Yifeng could not help but gloat.
When Zhang Yiheng knocked on the door and came in, he saw Wang Cheng lying on the sofa, reading with his legs crossed. Seeing the cover of the book, he recognized it as the novel the boss had asked him to look for a few days ago.
The relationship between Wang Cheng and the boss was no secret among the old employees. It was not surprising for everyone who had followed the boss from the beginning. There was vague speculation and everyone guessed their results. There were not many who were optimistic about them, including him. He and Li Yu knew best exactly what kind of family the boss was born of.
The sound of the door awakened Wang Cheng. “Zhang Ge?"
Zhang Yiheng nodded towards him, and then walked towards Chu Yifeng. A few seconds later, a clear report calmly sounded.
Huaying Real Estate could no longer be regarded as a pure real estate industry. Now it was also involved in hotels. The population base of Shanhai City was very large. While real estate was developing rapidly, many people fancied the hotel industry.
After getting off work, Wang Cheng brought the book back to the apartment. In the evening, he and Chu Yifeng were cooking and eating in the apartment by themselves. At about nine o'clock, Wang Cheng received a phone call from home. Although he had been mentally prepared, he was still taken aback when he saw the number. During this time, he deliberately had a ‘if you don't think about your parents, you won’t think about those things that happened when young’ mindset. No matter how happy things were, it would always leave a knot in his heart.
"Long-term pain is worse than short-term pain." Chu Yifeng sat next to him, and seeing that he was staring at the cell phone without answering, he knew that he was still affected a little. Wang Cheng glanced at him and didn't speak, but answered the phone.
"Chengcheng, come back tomorrow, your mother and I have something to tell you that we hid from you for twenty-five years, and it's time to let you know the truth." Papa Wang’s voice was slightly hoarse on the phone, making him seem a decade older in an instant.
"Alright. How are you and mom?" Wang Cheng responded after a moment of silence. This kind voice was not his biological father’s. He still somewhat couldn’t accept this fact, but he forced himself to endure it. In his memories, his father often took him and his elder brother to catch fish by the stream, and sometimes led them up the mountain to pick wild fruits and fruits and vegetables.
Papa Wang seemed to choke a bit, and then was reprimanded by Mama Wang, who had the same depressed and anxious tone of voice. It could be conceived that the couple was having a bad time.
"Your mom and I are good, you don't have to worry about us. We will wait for you to come back tomorrow; I’ll let your mom make a delicious table of food for you."
"Okay, I haven't tasted Mom's craftsmanship for a few days, and I miss it." Wang Cheng heard his voice and sighed. He didn't want to torture his parents. Chu Yifeng suddenly scratched his feet. Wang Cheng suddenly felt no more sorrow and injury. He glared angrily at him. "What?"
"What's wrong?" Papa Wang thought something had happened.
"Nothing, I'll go back tomorrow morning."
"Okay, then, you go to bed early."
Papa Wang reluctantly hung up the phone, and Mama Wang hurriedly asked him about the situation. "Relax, our son is stronger than we think. He will come home tomorrow, he should be with a friend now."
"Friend?" Mama Wang's face changed slightly. Needless to say, he must be with Chu Yifeng. Then, she helplessly sighed, changing her mind. After this time, as long as her son could come back, she no longer would force anything; if he liked men, let him like it. If Wang Cheng knew what Mama Wang was thinking, he would be very happy. This was a blessing in disguise.
