272: Go to Jail
The development of the incident was just as Chu Yifeng predicted. After Yu Hongming found out that his son was indeed the cause of this trouble, he immediately began networking in order to help excuse Yu Hongzhi.
However, according to surveillance that was imported to the police station from various perspectives, it could be judged that Yu Hongzhi had driven on that street that night. After identifying their car, they found that its bumper was a little dented with blood splatters on it. With DNA testing, it was determined to be the blood of the victim.
Yu Hongzhi had never expected for there to be a witness that night. Fortunately, the witness only said that he saw the car that hit the victim, not that he saw the perpetrator who hit the victim. Yu Hongming took advantage of this and decided to find someone to help be the scapegoat for Yu Hongzhi.
The people who were with Yu Hongzhi that night were all rich and wealthy second generations, so it was impossible for them to take the blame. Yu Hongming approached his personal driver and promised to give him one million as long as he went to jail instead of Yu Hongzhi. This way, the driver’s son could go abroad to further his studies, and his wife and parents could also live a good life.
The driver agreed, so for one million yuan, he went forward to admit that he had driven the car that night.
However, many people didn’t believe them, not only because this was an excuse commonly used by the rich, but also because the owner of the car was Yu Hongzhi. Yu Hongzhi always drove his car himself and had never once used a driver. Now that everyone was agreeing on this new course of events, though, they found they had no evidence to prove that Yu Hongzhi had driven his own car that night. So, the police had no choice but to release Yu Hongzhi.
Since the driver’s family was not rich and couldn’t come up with the compensation money [T/N: for the victim’s hospital fees and such], Yu Hongming stood up in front of the media and insincerely stated that since the incident was caused by his son’s behavior, he was willing to help the driver pay the bills. It was originally a good idea, as he wanted to take this opportunity to form a good public image. However, Wang Cheng and Chu Yifeng would not let them achieve what they wanted to.
Just when everyone thought this whole thing would come to an end, a group of pictures was released on the Internet. The content of the pictures alone could knock Yu Hongzhi down forever.
The first five pictures were Yu Hongzhi and his companions in the private room with the chaotic drugs and sex. Except for Yu Hongzhi, everyone else’s faces were censored. Continuing from the sixth picture, they left the bar together, and the three people drunkenly got into Yu Hongzhi's car. Next, there was a clear picture of Yu Hongzhi sitting in the driver's seat. His steps seemed unsteady, his face was flushed, and his expression was a little confused; one could see that he was drunk.
After that was the scene of the car accident.
The whole process was captured, from when Yu Hongzhi’s car hit someone, to when he got out of the car to take a look, to when he hastily escaped from the scene of the accident.
While the Internet was in chaos, the police station also received an anonymous package, containing the same photos.
Since Yu Hongming had already come forward and pretended to be a good person in a high-profile manner, now that the truth was exposed, the public felt tricked by him and became extremely angry. However much admiration they had previously felt for Yu Hongming as a successful businessman, was how much they were disgusted by him now.
Yu Hongming did not expect that there would be someone arranging things behind the scenes. When he learned of this, he knew that this all must have been in the other party’s plans. He was shocked and angry; the one behind the scenes was not only targeting his son, but also him and Shenghui Pharmaceutical.
The police soon came to take Yu Hongzhi away once more. Now that they had conclusive evidence, Yu Hongzhi could never escape.
Yu Hongming only had one son. How could he stand by and watch him waste away in jail? However, they could not ignore the pressure of public opinion now that this incident was so publicized. Also, those above him were paying attention to this matter. Even if they had the ability, others did not dare to help him.
"Dad, I heard that Hongzhi was taken away by the police. What's the matter with that? Wasn’t the perpetrator the family driver?" Yu Jing hurried back as soon as she heard the news.
Yu Hongming had barely been home for the past two days due to Yu Hongzhi’s matters. He looked quite haggard, as if he had aged ten years in an instant.
"Hongming, what's the matter? Will Hongzhi go to jail?" Yu Jing's mother Li Xin also hurried back after hearing the news. She had been at her birth family’s house for the past two days. She had originally wanted to come back, but was reassured when she heard that her son was doing fine. However, something suddenly occurred again after a couple of days.
"This matter is not that simple. Since the other party found someone to tail Hongzhi, it must be someone he has offended."
Yu Hongming originally thought it was a business competitor. After all, Shenghui Pharmaceutical’s situation in the stock market was not optimistic, all because of this incident. However, when he remembered that the other party had sent someone to stalk Hongzhi, he felt that it was impossible. Although Hongzhi was the heir to Shenghui Pharmaceutical, he didn’t have much power in the company. Investigating Hongzhi wasn’t detrimental to the company, even if they did take unfavorable pictures. In this way, he concluded that the other party was most likely targeting Hongzhi.
Yu Hongzhi offended many people.
Both Li Xin and Yu Jing knew what kind of person he was.
"Hongming, you must save our son. Hongzhi definitely can't go to jail!" Li Xin couldn't stop her tears as soon as she thought of her son going to jail.
"The evidence is all there, what else can we do?" Yu Hongming simply could not think of a way to save his son. Each and every one of the people he had been in contact with before this did not dare to come forward. Even if he turned to bribing, there was nothing he could do. "Now, the only way is to find the best lawyer and try to reduce his sentence."
Li Xin's vision went dark and she almost fainted.
"Dad, is there no way to help Hongzhi?" Yu Jing's eyes suddenly lit up suddenly, "Right, haven’t you heard that those who are mentally ill can commit crimes without criminal liability? We can prove Hongzhi is mentally ill with a certificate."
"Right, right, right, Jingjing is right." Li Xin rekindled her hope.
Yu Hongming shook his head. "It's useless. If we originally did this, it might have been possible."
"Why not?"
"When the driver had helped carry the burden of the crime for your brother, your brother appeared in public and was interviewed by reporters to testify. If we get a certificate for him now, we can only use it as an excuse for anything happening after the car accident, it won’t prove that your brother had mental problems at the time of the car accident."
Yu Hongming now saw in retrospect that those behind the scenes arranged things so carefully that even their escape route was blocked. The thought of such a person scheming against them from the dark caused him to feel a sudden chill down his back.
Wang Ning'an never thought that Wang Cheng would be so ruthless. Not only was Yu Hongzhi inexcusably convicted and sentenced, Shenghui Pharmaceutical was also implicated. Wang Cheng’s speed was much faster than he had imagined.
However, this incident held a hidden danger for him. If Yu Hongming learned that this incident was indirectly related to him, Wang Ning’an would probably not be able to stay in Shenghui Pharmaceutical. Now that Yu Hongzhi’s matters have developed to the point of imprisonment, this incident was no longer as simple as petty retaliation.
Just as Wang Ning’an was thinking about these things, his phone rang. It was Wang Cheng.
"Big brother, do you like my gift?"
Wang Ningan smiled, "Did you send someone to stalk Yu Hongzhi?"
"They’re the same private detective that was stalking you last time. I hadn’t originally intended to knock Yu Hongzhi down, I just wanted to teach him a lesson. I didn't expect him to dig his own grave."
So this was a story of ‘no zuo no die’*.
[T/N: *one won’t die (be in trouble) if they don’t make trouble themselves]
“You’ve done well, but how did you come up with this method to rattle Shenghui Pharmaceuticals?" Because of this incident, Wang Ningan's recent acquisition of Shenghui's stock had been exceptionally smooth, saving him a lot of money. Therefore, though there were drawbacks, there were also quite a few benefits.
"It wasn’t me who thought of this method, but Chu Yifeng."
"It seems that you have found yourself a golden bachelor," Wang Ning'an teased.
"Big brother, why have you failed to learn from the past? Should you be teasing your own younger brother like this?" Wang Cheng said, "Besides, I don't think Chu Yifeng is a golden bachelor, a golden daughter-in-law suits him better."
Wang Ningan was amused. He thought he was being shy, yet his face was still so thick. "Although your big brother doesn't object to your relationship, have you thought about how to solve the other obstacles between you?"
"We’ll just go with the flow for now."
"Alright, but you have to be more cautious. Your status is different now, so more people want to find your weakness. Be careful when you spend time with him."
"I will."
With the help of Eimer, the Zhou Group officially entered the international market. Since Wang Cheng had contributed to this matter, Zhou Shichang made an exception by letting him, who was essentially a layman, participate.
Zhou Lin raised an objection after learning about this, but was rejected. She still didn’t know that the connection with Eimer was caused by Wang Cheng’s matchmaking. In the end, they didn’t steal the information that Hengyu had wanted. But since some of it was already published anyway, it didn’t really matter whether or not they had stolen it.
Wang Cheng wanted to take this opportunity to just stay with Chu Yifeng, but it ended in tragedy. Before he had gotten off work, Mother Zheng suddenly called him, asking him to spare some time to have dinner with her.
"I can't go back to the apartment with you today. My mother wants me for dinner," Wang Cheng regretfully said to Chu Yifeng.
Chu Yifeng asked, "Does she want you to go back to the Zheng house?"
Wang Cheng shook his head, "No, we’ll be eating out. Based on the name, it should be authentic Chinese food. You’ll have to eat alone tonight. However, I will try and find a chance to return to the apartment. If I can't return, I will call and tell you."
He was not sure whether Mother Zheng planned to keep him at the Zheng house for the night.
"Okay." Chu Yifeng stroked his head.
