311: Cause
The next day, Wang Cheng couldn’t bear it and directly went to take care of that matter in the afternoon, accompanied by Chu Yifeng. He didn't inform Wang Ziyu, nor did he tell her roommates, for two reasons. One, because he had been there many times, and two, because he knew that they were all going to take their exams. The students around him began to whisper as they saw him, as usual. He felt like they always did something similar when they saw him, so he didn't care much, but Chu Yifeng frowned. The two planned to quickly enter the girls' dormitory building, but that didn't go so well. Just as they were about to enter, they were stopped by the aunt who guarded the dorm. Since Wang Ziyu or her roommates usually brought him in, the aunt had seen Wang Cheng before. It stood to reason that she should know he was looking for his sister.
"Auntie, I'm here to find my sister Wang Ziyu. Can you accommodate me?" Wang Cheng said, trying to be patient.
The aunt answered with a straight face: "I know you are Wang Ziyu's second brother, so I want to tell you something. Last night, your sister Wang Ziyu didn't come back to the dormitory all night. Although the school does not prohibit students from coming in and out of the school gates at night, since she decided to live on campus, she has to come back earlier. One cannot trust boys nowadays. I know that she is usually very well-behaved and polite, so as her brother, you should remind her of this."
Wang Cheng's face darkened. Not because of the aunt's meddling, but because this incident had only happened a night ago, yet had already spread all over Beijing University. Xiao Yu would be very sad when she learned of this. With this in mind, Wang Cheng thanked the aunt and immediately sped upstairs.
The Wang Cheng couple reached the third floor. The two were about to continue up, when they suddenly overheard a conversation between two girls standing above them.
"I really can't believe this. Wang Ziyu usually looks so innocent, I didn’t expect that she was so frivolous that she’d rent a room with a boy whom she had known for less than a month."
"You really can't judge a person by their appearance. Remember how satisfying it was when she rejected Wei Wei in the past? In the end, I think she only said all that because she didn't like him. Now that she’s met someone she likes, she is even willing to sleep with him."
"Ay, what a pity. If Tang Xin waited a little before transferring schools, she might have still been able to watch this good show. It now feels like Tang Xin was the actual victim of that previous incident, what a clever scheme."
"Now that a certain someone is rich and powerful, they don't bother putting anyone else in their eyes."
Wang Cheng grew very angry when he heard them. Chu Yifeng took his hand and shook his head at him. The couple walked up, and the two girls immediately stopped talking once they heard someone was coming. When they saw Wang Cheng, however, they immediately recognized him as Wang Ziyu's second brother. Their expressions suddenly became extremely unnatural; their eyes flickered and they didn’t dare to make eye contact. The two girls wondered if they had heard their conversation just now.
As he passed by them, Wang Cheng glanced at them coldly. The warning held in his gaze caused the two girls’ legs to weaken under the pressure. The two couldn't bear it any longer and stumbled downstairs. They were jealous of the rich and powerful, but only dared to speak out behind their backs, when no one was present. If those they spoke of ever learned of what they said in secret, those people could make them drop out of school with just one sentence.
There were several girls standing in the corridor outside the dorm rooms, and everyone was talking about this matter. However, there were still some girls who supported Wang Ziyu. After all, those who lived on the same floor usually communicated with each other. Wang Ziyu had a gentle personality, and sometimes helped with bringing meals and buying things. Once they saw Wang Cheng, everyone froze and stopped talking.
Qian Baobao and the others, however, were already mentally prepared. Before they made the phone call to Wang Cheng, they guessed that he wouldn’t hold back for too long, and would definitely come by the next day. They weren’t surprised when he came the same afternoon.
"Second brother..." Wang Ziyu stood up and turned around as she heard them come in. When she saw Wang Cheng walk in, she could imagine that her second brother was probably very angry after learning of what happened to her. She grew apprehensive.
Wang Cheng's bellyful of anger dissipated at the sight of his sister’s aggrieved face, and turned into helpless pity. In the end, she was probably also in a very bad mood right now. He hugged her and said, "Don't worry, your second brother will help you deal with the things on the forum." He knew his sister. Though she did spend last night with Gu Li, there must be some hidden agenda that caused her to. His sister was not the kind of girl who had no common sense. Even if she’d never been in love before, she knew that she couldn’t be out with a boy all night and not come back.
"Second brother, I'm sorry." Wang Ziyu's eyes turned red all of a sudden. When everyone on the forum was talking about her, she didn't feel aggrieved to the point of crying. However, when she saw that her second brother, her closest family member, didn't blame her, and even comforted her, she suddenly couldn't take it anymore.
"It’s okay, don't cry. Your second brother has a solution for this matter. However, before we get to that, you must be honest and tell me word for word: what did you do when you went out with that boy named Gu Li last night? Why did you come back so late? How did you meet?" Wang Cheng took a tissue that Mi Li gave them to help Wang Ziyu wipe the tears off her face.
"En." Wang Ziyu took the tissue and wiped her face by herself. She hadn't cried for a long time, and was a little embarrassed that everyone was looking at her.
The door of the dormitory room had been closed by Chu Yifeng, so those outside could not see the situation inside.
Wang Ziyu herself admitted that she had a crush on Gu Li. However, the relationship between them was not confirmed because Gu Li had never confessed to her, and she couldn’t directly tell him, ‘I have a crush on you’. For the past two days, she had been debating and discussing this matter with her roommates. She was originally scheduled to confess last night, but Gu Li suddenly called her.
It turned out that as they were in contact with each other, Wang Ziyu did not just meet Gu Li from time to time and frequent the library with him because she had a good impression of him. Instead, it was related to a friend Gu Li knew.
His friend's name was Ye Fan. Ye Fan was also a well-known genius at Beijing University. Like Gu Li, he had an internship at a company and rarely went back to school. Coincidentally, Ye Fan's major was the same as Wang Ziyu's. Back then, his notes were used as textbooks at school, so he was a figure worshiped by many students. Several of his academic papers were very famous.
Wang Ziyu had heard her senior sister at school talk about this person. Once she looked him up, she also admired him very much. Gu Li later found out about this and said that he knew Ye Fan, so if she wanted to see him, he could help her ask him out.
Wang Ziyu, of course, had no idea in this regard. She admired Ye Fan, but was most interested in his notes. The second half of her freshman year was almost over, and she started looking at the sophomore curriculum over a month ago. It would be good for her to also have a look at Ye Fan's notes. However, the notes left at school were just ordinary class notes. It was said that Ye Fan originally made two copies of the notes, and there was a copy better than the ordinary one at school, along with his unpublished papers. She wanted these more than she wanted to meet Ye Fan.
After Gu Li learned of this, he told her that he would help ask about this for her. The next day, he told her that Ye Fan agreed. However, Ye Fan was not in the Imperial Capital, and wouldn’t be back for a few days. Wang Ziyu told him that it was okay, she could wait a few days.
Last night, Gu Li suddenly called and told her that Ye Fan had come to the Imperial Capital. If she wanted the notes and papers, she should take advantage of the present. However, it was already seven o'clock, and Wang Ziyu felt that it was a little late, so she asked him if he could change their meeting to the next day. Gu Li said he was afraid that they couldn’t, because Ye Fan was leaving early the next day. Who knew when their next opportunity would be?
Knowing that Wang Ziyu had concerns, Gu Li thoughtfully told that he would go with her, and if everything went well, they should be back in an hour or so. He even promised to send her back to her dormitory before nine o'clock. When Wang Ziyu heard his promise, she hesitated back and forth, before finally agreeing.
Unexpectedly, after they got in the car, their driver took a wrong turn and ended up on a long detour. As an apology, the driver did not charge the rate for the rest of that part of the trip. By the time they arrived at their destination, it was almost eight o'clock. To their surprise, Ye Fan was also late.
Gu Li called Ye Fan, and Ye Fan said that he was kept by some problem before he left that took him a while to settle. Wang Ziyu felt that since he was on his way now, they’d only have to wait a while. As a result, the wait lasted for over half an hour. When he saw that it was almost nine o'clock, Gu Li called Ye Fan again. Ye Fan told him that he was in a car accident, the car he was riding in collided with another car. However, he was able to hail down another taxi.
When Wang Ziyu heard it was an accident, she couldn't complain. After all, he was the one giving her something, so she could only wait a little longer. By the time Ye Fan arrived, it was already past nine o'clock.
Gu Li said that next time, he would do his best to entertain him, but not tonight, because ten o'clock was the curfew of Beijing University, and he wanted to send Wang Ziyu back to school.
Everyone knew what happened next. Because of the street robbers, the two ended up having to stay outside that night.
When everyone heard the cause of the incident, they felt that this was indeed something Wang Ziyu would do. It was impossible for her to go out with a boy at night because she liked him, but it was possible for her to do it for Ye Fan's notes and papers. Mi Li had also heard her mention those papers before. It could only be said that good luck was tricky. Who would have thought that so many accidents would happen in the middle?
The several roommates didn't see the problem, but Wang Cheng felt that things were not so simple. There were only so many coincidences in the world. Even if these had all been coincidences, it would have been impossible for them to all happen at the same time. Wang Cheng’s intuition told him that this was probably all planned by Gu Li and Ye Fan. However, he didn't say it, now was not the right time.
