257: Sixth Sense
After leaving the Dongwang Group, Wang Cheng prepared to drive home. Chu Yifeng was not in Shanhai City, and Yuan Xia was also preparing for the medical procedures in the Imperial Capital. His only other acquaintances in Shanhai City were the group of people from Huaying Real Estate, but it was not yet time for them to get off work, so he wouldn’t bother them.
He drove the car towards a traffic light intersection, which had just switched to a red light on his side.
There were not many pedestrians and vehicles on the road. About ten seconds later, Wang Cheng suddenly saw a black car approaching from the lane opposite him. There was a red light in front of that lane, too, but instead of slowing down, the car accelerated, as if trying to run the red light.
Wang Cheng's eye twitched, and when he noticed no cars behind him, he inexplicably put his car into reverse. He didn’t know if it was just his imagination, but the black car seemed to have slammed on the gas after seeing his own car back up. The black car that was originally driving straight past him in a nearby lane suddenly careened towards him, out of control.
All the onlookers were taken aback. A nearby motorcyclist also left his vehicle and ran away. In the end, the black car just knocked down the motorcycle that was left there, fortunately not hurting anyone.
The frightened onlookers immediately gathered around, cursing at the black car and the driver of the car. After all, they had almost walked through the gates of hell just now.
The owner of the car didn’t exit for a long time. Through the windshield, one could see a man wearing all black with a baseball cap that covered his face.
The owner of the motorcycle kept calling him out, demanding him to compensate for his vehicle.
Wang Cheng exited his car. Some people couldn’t help but give him an extra glance due to his display of intuition. Many onlookers noticed that if it wasn't for the young man's sudden, instinctive, retreat, the black car really would have run into him, and maybe themselves as well.
At that moment, the man sitting in the black car also exited.
The motorcyclist stretched out his hand to grab the man, but before he could touch the other's collar, he was violently rejected. The man suddenly took out a knife and rushed towards Wang Cheng, attempting to stab him.
Wang Cheng took a step back and avoided the sharp knife. However, the man didn't give up, and the knife in his hand moved to stab his vitals. His skill was much better than an average punk’s. When the knife missed its mark, the man attempted to kick him, the force of his leg blowing across his face like a strong wind.
Onlookers screamed and ran away when the man exposed his knife, for fear of being stabbed by this suddenly-insane man. However, some people who were unafraid of death took out their phones and stood nearby to record and take pictures.
Two minutes later, Wang Cheng squeezed the man's wrist, forced him to release the knife, and then kicked his knee. Following the sound of breaking bones, the man couldn't help but scream. He was finally subdued by Wang Cheng.
Twenty minutes later, Wang Cheng sat in the police station.
One of the onlookers had called the police after the car accident. The police station was nearby, but the matter was already over by the time the officers arrived.
The police had originally thought it was just an ordinary accident involving no injuries. It was only upon their arrival that they learned this was an attempted murder. However, the gangster was subdued by a young man, causing him to fail in achieving his goal. Because the nature of this incident was a bit serious, Wang Cheng, who was in a hurry to leave, was invited to the police station to record a statement. A few onlookers with time on their hands also went to testify.
"Mr. Zhou, others are saying that before the car swerved towards you, you suddenly backed up. Did you know in advance that the black car was going to hit you?" The young policeman clad in his uniform flipped through his notebook before focusing on Wang Cheng.
Wang Cheng shook his head. "I didn’t know in advance. I just thought that the car was driving too fast: even though there was a red light in front of it, it didn’t slow down. I felt that something was wrong, so I backed up a little. I didn’t expect for that person to be coming at me."
The young policeman nodded. "I heard that you subdued the gangster alone?"
"I have been a practitioner since I was young."
"Then do you know who could have wanted your life? Do you remember offending anyone?" The young policeman asked again.
"I don't know who specifically, of course I’ve offended some people."
One asked and one answered. The young policeman performed the interrogation while taking notes. When the questions began to repeat themselves, an older policeman, who the young policeman called Li Dage, suddenly came over. Then Police Officer Li asked the young policeman to get up. After sitting down in the young policeman’s seat, he faced Wang Cheng with an unkind look in his eyes.
"The gangster has been sent to the hospital, and there has just been news from the hospital that the gangster's leg was broken. Did you hit him?"
This question was kind of rude, as if implying that he shouldn't have broken the gangster's leg.
Wang Cheng smiled and said, "Of course I did. He wanted to kill me. Should I still have been gentle with him? If so, the person lying in the hospital now would probably be me. I think my behavior can be classified as self-defense. Don’t treat me as if I don’t know the law, policeman uncle."
Li Danian frowned, "The gangster kept shouting in the hospital that he was seeking revenge from you for killing his Yu family. Do you have any impression of this incident?"
Wang Cheng raised his eyebrows. "I have no impression of such a thing, I don't associate with any gangsters at all."
Li Danian didn’t seem to think so. "Why would he want to take this revenge out on you if you didn’t know him?"
Wang Cheng finally realized why the policeman in front of him didn't like him. He was obviously the victim, but was being interrogated as if he were the perpetrator. He couldn't help but laugh.
"What are you laughing at?" Li Danian was a little unhappy, and felt that Wang Cheng’s smile was full of ridicule.
"Officer Li, are you really a policeman? I somehow feel like the little brother next to you is more like a policeman than you." Wang Cheng drily mentioned.
Li Danian grew angry. "Kid, what do you think you’re saying? Do you think you can do anything just because you have money?"
"You’ve finally said what you’ve been harboring all along." Wang Cheng was not provoked. He leaned back on his chair and looked up at him, "Let me guess. After listening to the gangster’s words, you sympathize with his experience. I just happen to be a rich man, and you think that things like killing people’s whole families are things that rich people do. If so, then it is possible that the gangster’s claim that I killed his whole family is true. In the end, you think that the gangster is facing so many difficulties and is very pitiful, worsening your impression of me even more, am I right?"
Li Danian's expression changed.
Wang Cheng continued: "Let me guess again, you’ve recently encountered this type of case, so now you’re especially angry when encountering a similar situation?"
"Mr. Zhou, please don't get angry. Officer Li didn't mean anything, he just grew a little passionate. I apologize to you on his behalf, sorry, sorry!" Seeing that the situation was taking a turn for the worse, the young policeman quickly jumped into the mud.
"Relax, after seeing your own precise behavior, I don't care much about this matter. However, I have a piece of advice to give Officer Li. Although I have never been a police officer, I know that it is best not to bring personal feelings into this business." Wang Cheng noticed Li Danian's expression change again, then indifferently said, "Okay, I have already said everything that needed to be said. I will leave the rest to you. May I leave now?"
"That’s fine, Mr. Zhou can leave at any time."
After sending the man away, the young policeman finally breathed a sigh of relief. When he saw that Li Danian’s expression was still angry, he felt helpless. Zhou Cheng really guessed correctly, a similar case to this occurred last month. A middle-aged man attempted to kill a rich second generation to avenge his family; his wife, children and parents were killed in a car accident six months ago. The rich second generation was the perpetrator, and found someone who erased the charges. The middle-aged man decided to take the unlawful route as a last resort, attempting to drag them both down to their deaths. In the end, he gave up his own life to turn the rich second generation into a vegetable*, which basically fulfilled his wish. However, insiders, including Li Danian, truly felt uncomfortable about this matter. He was in charge of that case at the time, and so became very disgusted with people who did evil things just because their families had money.
[T/N: vegetative state is when a patient has no sense of awareness, like a long-term coma but they might seem awake instead of asleep]
By the time Wang Cheng left the police station, it was already dark. It seemed that he had to go to Chu Yifeng's apartment for a night. After this incident occurred, he had a foreboding feeling that it would be hard for him to sleep. So, he called his parents to inform them that he would not be coming back tonight.
Sister Liu was now only responsible for cleaning the apartment, not restocking the refrigerator. So, there weren’t many things left, only some non-perishable sauces. There were no convenient frozen dumplings or other things like that.
Wang Cheng closed the refrigerator door disappointedly. What a bleak night.
After a while, Wang Cheng took the elevator to the underground parking lot. The overhead lights illuminated the parking lot like sunlight, but at this time, there was no one around him. When Wang Cheng found his car and prepared to open the door, he suddenly felt an extra presence behind him.
Wang Cheng quickly dodged to the side. As a result, he was hugged into a familiar embrace and scent that could only belong to one person. When he looked up, he was greeted with a handsome face.
"I’m surprised, but not happy*."

Chu Yifeng: "..."
Chu Yifeng let go of him, smoothed out his clothes, and said: "You seemed pretty tense just now. What happened before I came?"
"Something did happen that I wasn’t able to tell you about before. I just came back from the police station so I'm about to go out and eat. Let’s walk and talk at the same time." Wang Cheng dragged him into his car.
